Therapy & Rehabilitation at Sheridan Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center

Short-Term Therapy & Rehabilitation

Our comprehensive rehabilitation program caters to the mental and physical requirements of each elder. We work on improving physical strength and the performance of daily living activities. Whether a short stay is needed for respite care or recovery from injury or illness, the Sheridan Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center team continually monitors the medical and psychological progress of each elder.

Respite Care

Respite Care provides temporary relief for the primary caregiver of a sick, aging, or disabled family member. Whether for a few hours a week or an extended period of time, respite care has positive benefits for both caregiver and family member. Caregivers get a much-needed break to rest and replenish their own energy, while their beloved family member enjoys a change of scenery, routine, and stimulation in a safe, caring environment.

Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy focuses on restoring elders’ physical functioning:

  • mobility training, gait stability, ambulation, posture, and positioning
  • customized exercises to re-educate muscles for improved function and coordination
  • programs to help with balance and fall prevention
  • mobilization of joints and soft tissue to increase range of motion and manage contractures

Speech Therapy

Speech Therapy addresses elders’ communication and swallowing needs:

  • exercises for recovery of speech, language, and memory skills
  • strengthen verbal and nonverbal communication for hearing and hearing-impaired individuals
  • functionally appropriate diets
  • focus on oral muscle strength and functions required for speaking and swallowing

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy helps elders navigate their physical environment:

  • re-training environment for daily living activities, such as dressing, bathing, eating, and grooming
  • activities to assist with memory, orientation, and cognitive integration
  • adaptive techniques and equipment to ease physical disabilities
  • exercises to build strength and coordination
  • therapeutic routines to minimize the discomfort of conditions like arthritis and facilitate normal joint movement
